TypingFlash

Privacy Policy

TypingFlash ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our typing practice platform.

Last updated: March 2025

In short

  • We collect account, usage, and progress data to run the service and improve it.
  • We use third-party cloud providers for authentication and storage; we do not sell your personal data.
  • You can access, correct, export, or delete your data and contact us anytime at contact@typingflash.com.

1. Who we are

TypingFlash is the data controller for the personal data we process through our platform. Our service helps you improve your typing skills through typing tests, lessons, games, challenges, and progress tracking.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you provide and data we generate when you use the service.

  • Account data: email address, display name (if you set one), and authentication identifiers (e.g. from social or email-link sign-in).
  • Usage and progress data: typing test results, lesson completion, challenge scores, awards, certificates, and how you interact with the app (e.g. feature usage, errors).
  • Technical and device data: IP address, browser type, device information, and general location (e.g. country) where needed for security, support, or service delivery.
  • Preferences: theme (light/dark) and other in-app settings stored in your browser or account.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain the service (e.g. authentication, storage, typing tests, lessons, progress tracking).
  • Improve our product (e.g. fixing bugs, understanding usage patterns, developing new features).
  • Communicate with you (e.g. support, important service notices, and where you have agreed, product updates).
  • Ensure security, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

4. Legal basis (EEA/UK)

Where applicable (e.g. EEA/UK), we rely on: contract (to perform our agreement with you), legitimate interests (e.g. security, improvement of the service), and consent where we ask for it explicitly (e.g. optional communications). You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

5. Sharing and third parties

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only as needed to run the service:

  • Cloud and authentication providers: we use third-party services for authentication and database storage. Account and progress data may be stored and processed by these providers in accordance with their privacy policies.
  • Email and support: contact and feedback messages may be handled via our email and support service providers.
  • Infrastructure: our app may be hosted on third-party infrastructure that processes traffic and logs.

We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect our rights, safety, or property.

6. International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your residence (e.g. United States). We ensure appropriate safeguards (e.g. standard contractual clauses or equivalent) where required by law so that your data remains protected.

7. Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations. When you delete your account or content, we delete or anonymize data in line with our systems and applicable law. Some data may remain in backups for a limited period.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access — receive a copy of your personal data.
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — request deletion of your data.
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Restrict or object — to certain processing in some jurisdictions.
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent.
  • Complain — to a supervisory authority (e.g. in the EEA/UK).

To exercise these rights, use in-app settings where available (e.g. profile, delete account) or contact us. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.

California (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell personal information. You have the right to know what we collect, to delete, and to correct. You may opt out of "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising if we engage in it (we do not currently do so for this service).

9. Children's privacy

Our service is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have collected such data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Cookies and similar technologies

We use:

  • Strictly necessary: e.g. authentication and security so the service can function.
  • Preferences: e.g. theme stored in your browser (localStorage) to remember your choices.
  • Analytics: we may use analytics services to understand usage; you can manage preferences via your browser or device settings where applicable.

11. Security

We implement technical and organizational measures (e.g. encryption, access controls, secure infrastructure) to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we encourage you to use a strong password and keep your account credentials safe.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. For material changes, we may notify you by email or through the app. Continued use of the service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

13. Contact us

For privacy-related requests, questions, or complaints, contact us at contact@typingflash.com. You can also use the Contact option in the app menu. We will respond as required by applicable law.
